MEDIA RELEASE 26 AUGUST 2025
Winton Shire Council launches Economic Development Strategy 2025–2029
Winton Shire Council has endorsed its Economic Development Strategy 2025–2029, a comprehensive framework to guide sustainable economic growth, attract new investment, and create opportunities across the region.
The Strategy sets a clear vision for Winton Shire to leverage its traditional strengths – including agriculture, tourism, events, and opal mining – while embracing emerging opportunities in small business, innovation, and regional partnerships.
Mayor Cathy White said the Strategy reflects the aspirations of the community and lays out a practical path to long-term prosperity.
“Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and a strong economy helps keep that heart beating,” Mayor White said.
“This Strategy is an important step forward. It sets out a clear plan to grow local jobs, attract new opportunities, and build a bright future for everyone in the region.
We’re proud of what we’ve already built, and now it’s time to build on that momentum. Together, we can shape a stronger, more resilient Winton for generations to come.”
Deputy Mayor Tina Elliott said collaboration will be key to achieving the Strategy’s ambitious goals.
“This plan was shaped with input from our local businesses, community, and industry stakeholders,” Cr Elliott said.
“Real progress comes from working together – and this Strategy gives us the direction and partnerships we need to make it happen.”
The Economic Development Strategy 2025–2029 is structured around six strategic themes:
- Skills & Population
- Agriculture & Mining
- Infrastructure & Essential Services
- Tourism & Events
- Small Business & Innovation
- Partnerships, Planning & Development
This long-term strategy positions Winton Shire to strengthen its economy, diversify its industries, and unlock opportunities that reflect the identity of its people and place.
