Winton is located in Central Western Queensland on the Landsborough Highway, 178 kilometres north-west of Longreach, and approximately 1,353 kilometres from Brisbane City; covering 53,935 square kilometres and boasting a population of around 1,600 people.

Council provide funeral and undertaking services in addition to maintaining the cemetery.

Parks & Facilities
Winton boasts a large selection of parks, shaded play areas and sporting facilities. The Eric Lenton Memorial Sports & Recreational grounds and the Winton Memorial Pool are augmented by the showgrounds, undercover sports hall at the school, skatepark, tennis courts and squash courts.
Youth & Recreation
Winton Council actively engage with the young people of the Winton Community by providing resources, support and leadership. Developmental and Vacation Care as well as annual celebrations such as National Youth Week, NAIDOC Week and Shockwave Workshops are also delivered by this program.
Little Swaggies Child Care supports and promotes access to high quality and flexible early childhood education. The Centre operates from 7.30am to 5.30pm five days a week and has before and after school care for children as well as holiday care throughout the year.
Winton Council support a large variety of initiatives that increase and promote the region’s economic development. Council have a deep commitment and investment in the film, tourism, agricultural and energy sectors. Council also have a range of programs to support small and medium businesses.
Community & Health
Council provide a large range of community and health services from the Winton Neighbourhood Centre. These services provide domestic assistance, personal care, respite, social support, home maintenance and nursing for the elderly, disabled, disadvantaged and for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people.
The Winton Shire Council office and Council Chambers are located at 75 Vindex Street. Various Council functions such as payroll, creditors, debtors, rates, human resources and financial services operate at this office. All public enquiries should be directed to the staff at this office.
