NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL THROUGH THE WINTON SHIRE COUNCIL NEEDS TO STOP

COVID-19 has effectively closed the most important time of the year for our Winton Business Community – the Tourist Season.  Our major tourism drawcards are closed, events either cancelled or postponed and many of our council facilities are also closed.

The Winton Shire Council is focused on protecting the health and safety of our residents, in particular our most vulnerable residents during these difficult times.  Any tourists planning a trip to Winton at the present time are requested to cancel their plans until it is deemed safe to travel.

All non-essential travel through the Winton Shire Council needs to stop now!!!!!

Our grocery stores are currently struggling to supply our own residents with basic supplies.  Our health services cannot support tourists and our local population should there be an outbreak of COVID-19 in our community.

Winton has always been a welcoming community for the many tourists and visitors who pass through. We are very grateful, they’re an important part of our economy. The best way they can help us now is go home and plan to return after the COVID–19 pandemic is over.

Council continues to monitor the directions provided by the Australian and Queensland governments and will consider their application and impacts on the Winton Shire Council.

These are difficult times and like most states, cities, towns and communities across Australia at the present time, the Winton Shire Council are putting the health and safety of our residents first.
