School-based Traineeship Program

Back

The Winton Shire Council is committed to offering a number of school-based traineeship opportunities to Winton students, giving them the chance to develop their theoretical knowledge and gain some practical experience in the career of their choice.
Council’s school-based trainees will be supported, encouraged and mentored while performing meaningful work and contributing to the successful operation of our shire. In conjunction with obtaining a Nationally Recognised Qualification, our school-based trainees will be provided with real opportunity to develop skills within a team environment. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge relevant to a chosen field of work. We have highly experienced mentors who will assist our trainees every step of the way and provide guidance and endless support.

Our school-based trainees will enter into a training contract and will be supervised while learning on the job, and also attending off-job training with a training provider.  Typically in Years 10, 11 and 12, our school-based trainees are paid for time spent working with Council. Each trainee will work a minimum of 7.5 hours per week of paid employment, which may be averaged over 3 months.

In 2021 Council is very pleased to be able to offer school-based traineeships across the following areas:

  • Certificate III in Community Services
  • Certificate III in Individual Support
  • Certificate III in Business/Business Administration
  • Certificate II in Civil Construction
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction Road Construction and Maintenance
  • Certificate III in Tourism
  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Interested students are invited to express their interest by submitting a copy of their most recent report card and a letter explaining why they want a traineeship with Council and their preferred area of study.
