Community Notice - Councillor Resignation

Back

At our December Council meeting, Councillor Sandy Gillies submitted her resignation letter to take effect from the 18/12/2020. It is with regret that I accepted her resignation. CR Gillies has done a great job representing our Shire; both in the community and council meetings over the last nine months and I wish her good luck in her new role as CEO of WQPHN.

With the resignation of Councillor Gillies occurring in the first 12 months of a new term of Local Govt and in accordance with section 166 of the Local Govt Act 2009, Council has two options:

The local government must decide, by resolution, whether the vacancy is to be filled:

  1. by a by-election; or
  2. by following the procedure under section 166A (3) The electoral commission must give a vacancy notice to the runner-up who is first in the order of priority

During the council meeting on the 10/12/2020 it was resolved to fill the vacancy through a by-election.

THAT following the resignation of Cr S Gillies, Council determine that the vacancy will be filled through a by-election  conducted by the Electoral Commission Queensland.
