Tourism is the ever increasing industry in Winton, with the Waltzing Matilda Centre and more recently the dinosaur/paleo tourism industry link to Winton.
The development of Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways and Conservation Park saw it receiving Australian National Heritage listing in 2004 which confirms its status as the nucleus of Winton's tourism industry.
Winton Shire Council continues to be the major employer and training provider in the Shire.
